A Brief History of Tuesday

Requested: the most boring day imaginable, told like an epic

At 07:14, the kettle betrayed him. What followed would be recorded, by no one, as the defining struggle of the age.

He faced the commute as his forefathers had: badly, and with headphones. The train was delayed by a swan. This was not, the announcement stressed, the swan from last week.

By noon he had answered eleven emails and understood none of them. By three, he had been added to a meeting titled Quick Sync, which lasted long enough for the season to feel different on the way out.

And yet. At 18:40 the bus came early, and someone he had never met held the door, and he went home and made the tea properly, and it was, by any honest accounting, a good day.
